Homeschooling was once a rare educational method. Today it is well known and an accepted way to education your kids.

Most parents thinking of homeschooling have a difficult time deciding whether to do it or not. The following is a list 17 reasons why other parents are homeschooling their kids. And, there is one important question you must answer correctly if you expect to succeed in homeschooling. This will be given to you at the end of this article.

- Private school is to expensive

- Their children have problems learning in school or have a hard time getting along with other kids

- They have special health needs

- They are unhappy with the public school curriculum

- They want their kids to have a better education

- They enjoy homeschooling and being with their children

- They don’t want their kids to be badly influenced by other kid and learn their bad behaviors

- They want their kids to learn the skills they need to succeed in life

- They want their kids to receive an education that caters to their interests, ability level and aspirations

- They move around, following husbands work, and this is a way to keep the family together

- Their kids would get the individual attention they really needed

- It gives the kids a chance to become who they really are by giving them more freedom to express themselves than public schools would allow.

- The want to see their kid grow and turn into wonderful, capable, loving person.

- They want a way of life that allows the whole family to be together

- They feel they are releasing their kids to strangers to raise them and this is not what they want to do

- Their own educational philosophy greatly differs with the public school education.

So how do you decide whether to homeschool or not. Well, you’re going to need a lot of information. You need to learn about,

- academic research

- legal homeschool rulings

- homeschooling practicals

- schooling materials

- how much it will cost

- how to evaluate what you are doing

One more important thing you will need to find out. You need to know what it feels like to homeschool your kids day in and day out.

Finally, the most important question you have to answer if you are planning to homeschool your kids is:

Do you really enjoy being and spending time with your kids? The question is, if you enjoy spending a lot of time with your kids every day. You must like being with your kids most of the time and if you don’t then most likely, homeschooling is not for you.

One of the questions I get asked most often is ‘where can I buy a reliable list of email addresses?’ I have only one answer: don’t even go there.

When you’re just starting to build your list, you may not have email addressses for all your customers, let alone prospects. It’s tempting to go down the traditional route of buying in a list – after all, it’s a standard direct marketing tactic. But there can be problems with this, for example:

  • Email addresses frequently change. If the addresses are over 6 months old and haven’t been mailed to in that time then you should question the value of the list.
  • List brokers rarely have individual email addresses on their books – so you may get a list of names and job titles but with generic email addresses (sales@, info@ etc). Delivery to these kinds of addresses often results in your email never reaching the intended recipient.
  • Email list brokers should be able to demonstrate the provenance of email addresses. How were they obtained? What did these people actually opt in to receive? Beware that if the list broker has no audit trail to speak of, in the case of a spam complaint you may be in a difficult position.
  • Who else has purchased these addresses and emailed them? If they have been re-sold too often or to the wrong kinds of customer that will negatively affect your campaign and may associate you with spammers.
  • If you are planning to email private individuals with whom you have no ‘prior commercial relationship’ then you are almost certainly contravening the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications legislation (if your target recipients are outside of the UK then check the legislation in the relevant market). The Website of the Information Commissioner’s Office has useful guidance notes on how to interpret the rules at http://www.informationcommissioner.gov.uk/eventual.aspx?id=96

So what’s the answer? Focus primarily on building your houselist. Yes, it takes time, but it’s not impossible. Ask permission at every opportunity, encourage forwarding of the newsletter … it’s worth it, not least of all because houselists outperform bought lists in every sense. For example, they deliver higher click-through rates, better conversion rates, better pass-along rates and a better response to survey or feedback requests. Over time, your houselist will increase in value as a communications tool. Home-grown is best!

Writing a letter to your newspaper’s editor is a privilege that Americans have exercised since the early days of journalism. You need not be an expert about the topic at hand, but by adding your voice to the discussion you can help shape people’s opinions positively and constructively. Here are some tips to help you get your letter published:

1. Keep it short and sweet. Most newspapers and ezines put limitations on the number of words you can write. Generally, 200 words or less is common although some newspapers allow for up to 300 words. If you find these limitations to be too confining, consider offering your thoughts to the editor via an “op-ed” piece.

2. Keep it “libel-free.” You can criticize someone personally, but you may not libel them. Don’t expect your letter to receive the light of day if you slander or libel someone. Free speech does have its limits.

3. Use your own words. Sharp editorial staffs will recognize plagiarism in a moment. Speak from your heart, don’t quote others unless you are responding specifically to an article or previously submitted letter to the editor.

4. Show good taste. This one is difficult. What is tasteless to one, is a freely spoken opinion to another. Remember: you want to get the letter published, so curb your language accordingly.

You don’t have to agree with the newspaper or ezine’s policy regarding letters to the editor. Still, if you want to get published you must take into consideration whatever guidelines are offered.

Please note that you will be required to submit your name, address, and city as well as your phone contact information too. Some, not all, editors will allow you to be listed as “Name Withheld by Request” while others will want you to identify yourself with the words you wrote. So, think carefully about what you want to have printed as misused verbiage can come back to haunt you later on.

My 14-year old son is doing a lot of swearing. He uses this language with his friends as well as on line through email. I am not happy about this. Is there anything I can do to get him to stop?

For adolescence, swearing seems to be a way for them to have a greater sense of freedom and power. For a young person your son’s age this is not surprising. See chapters 6 & 7 of Peaceful Parenting® where ages and stages are more fully discussed. Essentially, teen-agers have a strong desire for increased power and freedom during their adolescence. Apparently your son has chosen swearing as one way to follow these urges.

Just because your son has chosen swearing as his way to increase his sense of power and freedom doesn’t necessarily mean that you are happy about it. I bet you already have experienced no success by attempting to externally control his behavior. Threatening to ground him, or punishing him or fining him will not succeed. If you have tried these methods you already know that he can and will continue to use foul language if he chooses. During our children’s adolescence it becomes very clear just how little control we have over our children’s behavior.

I have two suggestions that might be useful. First, explain to your son your objection to his language. Explain why you feel as you do about it. Further explain that you are well aware that you are unable to make him stop. Telling him you can’t control his behavior may help him have a greater sense of power and freedom. Simply explain what your desires are regarding what is acceptable and not acceptable language to you.

Next, at a different and separate time from the above request, have an open discussion with your son regarding swearing. Is there ever a time where swearing is inappropriate? Is there ever a time where swearing is appropriate? How do you feel about your own language use? How does he feel about your language use? You might even share with your son that you appreciate that he swears with his friends but not to teachers, relatives, etc. Is there any liability to using foul language on the internet?

Essentially what I am suggesting is that you engage your son in a conversation where you are not trying to moralize or preach. After all, he is of an age where he is going to be making increasingly difficult choices regarding his morals and ethics. Why not keep the conversation and connection an open exchange between you? This will have a much greater positive impact on your relationship with each other than any attempts on your part to “make him stop.” Asking him his opinion and to self-evaluate will also more likely lead to him making better choices about his language – eventually.

On line bingo has come to be more and more common in the English speaking world. As a consequence of smoking having been banned currently in most public places, a good number of conventional bingo halls were wrapped up: expectably, this resulted in a good number of companies pushing ‘net bingo as by way of another option.

Movie stars’ testimonials from J. and S. Osbourne and others have also helped boost the public image of cyber bingo: with approximately 3 million punters presently going for a game or two.

Nowadays you’ll discover very many ‘net bingo online pages, all recommending their supporters really fantastic bonanzas and other exclusive prizes e.g. brand new cars, movie premiere tickets not to mention luxury holidays.

What’s specially ripping about ‘net bingo is that all people can easily have a go at it practically anytime if you have a WWW connection. With games triggered off every few minutes you can organize bingo with your ordinary life.

At the start it was thought that the group aspect of bingo gaming would surely suffer owing to the shift away from conventional bingo halls – but, rather, English bingo enthusiasts have refuted the skeptical alarmists! Growing numbers have started to make use of the sites presented by stacks of ‘net bingo companies.

Here at these places anyone can meet thousands of new friends, derive benefit from select contests and become part of other bingo communities.

Surveys have also verified that people are more likely to gain megabucks wagering bingo in comparison to alternative forms of risking a bet e.g. the pools and sports bets.

And if you become a little fed up with bingo, hundreds of ‘net bingo online pages proffer a huge selection of alternative diversions. These may range from slots or numbers games thru caption contests and comic quizzes.

Seeing there’s so many options available it can actually be a bit difficult to decide which web based bingo operator will be your best choice. It will pay out to have a shot at a little bit of research and inspect who is currently propounding the most striking special deals. Numerous ‘net bingo online pages will authorise you to have a few free games of bingo or reciprocate any initial cash deposit at 1:1 or more.

If any of your good friends have signed up at some special ‘net bingo web setup, you should ponder following suit as the networking and social chat side will surely add to the overall fun and entertainment!:)

Have you tossed and turned in bed at night because the sound of a barking dog is keeping you awake? How about the dog that barks off and on throughout the night? Just when things have quieted down and you have finally fallen asleep, you are jolted awake because your neighbor’s dog has wound back up and started her barking, again. Individuals who live next to a “barker” may find their nerves at the breaking point, especially if the dog barks around the clock.

The yipping can grate on your nerves to the point where you are grinding your teeth and plotting ways to get rid of your neighbor’s dog. Visions of a full nights sleep or a peaceful backyard cookout dance in your head, yet your daydreams are interrupted (yet again) when “Fluffy”decides it’s time to start her barking back up. What can possibly be worse than this? Well, being the owner of this noisy canine is far worse.

Dog owners, who have a pooch that is constantly barking, are very much aware that their neighbors are upset. They are used to seeing their neighbors with bloodshot eyes and unfriendly expressions. Many of these dog owners may even have “run ins” with their neighbors over the annoying behavior of their dog. Others may have received citations or fines for being in breech of some noise ordinances in their town or neighborhood. What is a dog owner to do when they have a dog that has annoying (or down right disturbing) barking tendencies? They love their pet, yet they know their pet’s barking is out of control. They also know their pet is tearing down their standing in the neighborhood.

The first step is to try to uncover the reason behind the continual barking. If you have had your dog for years and she has never displayed a tendency for barking before, you should have her evaluated at the vet’s office. Older dogs may start barking if they are experiencing changes in their body. A dog that is suddenly losing her hearing or sight may be frightened. She may simply be trying to tell you that something is wrong with her. Older dogs who are experiencing arthritis–or other disease or disorder- may also start barking.

Countless barkers are simply having separation anxiety. The signs of separation anxiety in a dog can include these symptoms:

  • Your inside dog is your shadow. She follows you from room to room and doesn’t seem to have “interests” that do not include you.
  • Your inside or outside dog is aware when you are preparing to leave-and she becomes mournful or agitated. She may also do things for your attention and act excited in an attempt to get you to take her along.
  • Your inside or outside dog barks nonstop when you are away. (You can have a neighbor monitor your dog’s behavior or set up a video or tape recorder.)
  • Your dog greets you with much enthusiasm, jumping . . . or even a weak bladder.
  • Inside dogs do not like being placed outside and will stand at the door and bark to get back inside.
  • Outside dogs will bark nonstop when you are away from home. They will also bark when you are indoors and they do not see you.

The last thing that dogs with separation anxiety need is punishment. They simply do not understand what they are being disciplined for. The best thing you can do is to teach your dog that she is going to be all-right while you are away. You can do this by going through the “motions” of leaving your home without actually doing so. This means you can put on your coat, gather your things, and pretend that you are leaving. Then don’t. Repeat this, but next time go outside for a few minutes and then return. As you repeat this process, stay outside for a few minutes longer. This will gradually work up the amount of time your dog is alone and she realizes that she is going to be okay. You can also leave a special treat or chew toy behind to distract her from your leaving.

You can do this with an outside dog, too. Simply go outside like you are preparing to leave. Open your car door. Stand there a few minutes, then shut your car door and go back inside. Next time, go back outside and sit in your car for a few moments. Extend the amount of time you are in your car. You can work this up to driving down the block, then around the block twice, etc. You can have a neighbor or family member secretly monitor how long your dog stays quiet.

One of the important things to remember when you have a dog with separation anxiety barking is to make your arrivals and departures very low key. Do not overly greet them, or sadly tell them good-bye. This will only aggravate them. While some individuals would never dream of leaving home without telling their pets good-bye, it usually only upsets a dog with separation anxiety disorder.

Another thing you can do if you have an outside dog with separation anxiety is to evaluate if they are being socially neglected. Most dogs have a pack mentality, and they need to feel as if they belong. Make sure you are spending adequate time with your dog. Ensure that her area is full of toys and playthings that will keep her entertained while you are away. There are many families who found their dog quieted once they got her a playmate. If this does not help, there are anxiety medications which you can get from your vet. These will usually keep your dog calm and relaxed while you are away.

If your dog has been checked by a vet and she is healthy, and if you are certain your dog does not have separation anxiety . . . you may just have a dog with a major “quirk.” After you try the many techniques to get your dog not to bark, you may have to try a new approach. This can include squirting them with a water hose/water bottle or placing a barking collar on them.

There are some pet owners who assume that all barking collars are “shock collars.” This is not true. There is a bark collar which will squirt liquid on your dog when she barks. If you know your dog will hush when she is squirted with a hose, this collar can work for you while you are away, or at night. Check out the various barking collars on the market and find one you are comfortable with. But, keep in mind that there are some canines who will bark, despite the barking collar they are wearing.

As a last resort some dog owners (who find there is nothing to keep their dog from barking) will sometimes have their dog’s “bark” removed. This concept is quite shocking to a dog owner who has never experienced the problem of having a severe barker in their family. However, this doesn’t mean a dog will not be able to bark. This surgery just brings a dogs bark down to a quieter and softer level. It should be noted that many dogs which are in dog shelters are put to sleep on a regular basis because of their incessant barking. If your dog has a severe barking problem, this option is certainly preferred over euthanasia or moving to a secluded island.

Cats cannot be discipline as you would a dog. With a dog they are social dominant that can be trained to have you as the dominant one. The reason that cats will not react as a dog is that cats have social groups only by respect and social groups.

Physical punishment on cat will only result in the cat fearing you. So never, hit your cat or any physical punishment.

Train your cat to have appropriate behaviors and that they cannot do the inappropriate behaviors as you will not tolerate this type of behavior. Cats do not like surprises; an advantage that you will have on the cat, in order to be able to train by using surprise noises. Use clapping, firm voice “NO”, hissing, or water bottle to have your cat stop the unwanted behaviors. For these to be effective you must do a surprising sound immediately when the unwanted behaviors are being done. Seconds later or even when you come home and find the unwanted behavior done is not going to be effective as doing it as soon as the cat starts the unwanted behavior.

Never rub the nose of the cat. Use the face push method, pushing the palm of you hand in the cats face. This is a great way to let your cat know that biting is not acceptable, if you have a cat that is biting. Simply push the cats face back gently, do not hit the cat.

Some behaviors will not be able to train. Childproofing might be the solution to that behavior. Small plastic container, keep the valuable breakables out of reach, find our of reach places for the dangerous items so your cat cannot reach and get into them. Make sure all items that the cat might be able to get on if there is a climbing or a jumping problem is secure.

Pet stores do offer assorted sprays, creams, powders, scents, and other items to help with the training your cat. Catnip is available in different forms to help with having your cat know some of it territory. Scat mats are mats that have very little current that runs on a battery. These are great for on the counter, couch, or anything that the cat has been jumping on when your presents is not in that room. Scents in sprays and creams for furniture, litter boxes and other item that help deterrent your cat from. So they will use a scratching pole.

Place fabric that is lose woven down, or netting cats does not like to have their nails snag. Rubbing lemon, bitters, cayenne pepper, orange peelings on items that the cat is not allow playing with. Put foil paper around plants so that your cat is not digging in the dirt. Cats do not like the feel or noise from the foil paper.

Toys for actives are also import for you to help with behaviors. If you do not supply actives for the cat to do you will not be able to train your cat. Toys with catnip in them are great, scratching poles, ropes, and hoops for jumping through. You can be crafty and make items that the cat would like to play with.

Starting to train a cat when it is young is the best way, this is the easiest with you and with the cat. Less stress, your cat will learn the good behaviors easier, and you can get a handle on the natural bad behaviors.

Once of the best things to make sure that your cat is ready to train is take him to the vet for a check up and make sure he has had his shot. This is important; as if your cat is ill, you will not be able to train your cat. Also, for the groomer to maintain his fur and nails. Both of these are great to for the social part of training. Your cat will need to see these people on regular bases and if started right away, will help with the training.

Most of all Patience, love and caring for your cat will be a great gift that you can do for the training. They will love you back.

Gaming laptops used to only be able for purchase through specialist resellers. Despite the fact they were not good sellers they did have big margins. The price was just too large to justify purchasing these kinds of laptop for the masses. They were like the highest grade of what was possible with laptop computer technology. The best laptop computers around. Regardless of the buzz created I doubt they were amazing sellers because I do not believe buyers would buy laptop computers as an alternative to desktop computers as they were overpriced. As the massive computer manufacturers appreciate the potential revenues in gaming laptops, the business is altering.

They are aware there is profit to be made here. They could command the sector. This can be a great strategy to produce tidy margins for them. Getting consumers to buy laptop computers is rather simple for bigger manufacturers. I am trying to think what the the reaction from smaller retailers will be. I am already seeing some price reductions. I am fairly sure that the multinational manufacturers will attempt to push the small ones out. Established companies can utilize their brand names to easily win people over.

Amazingly, the notebook computers they are launching are a couple of the best laptop computers to present. I think this will still be the encouraging advantage for smaller retailers though. Most of the time the pre made systems are good performers however not powerful enough and a couple of buyers do not take well to that. These specific potential customers are traditionally very knowledgeable with the technology and can check each of the parts by themselves. For people of this type, what it can do can be more important than how the styling is.

This is all really good from the purchasers perspective. In the end, the prices will be brought down even greater making the newest technology to be a choice that we can buy. Who is to envisage what will take place. I am in fact not that sure. Whether laptop computer prices will decline overall is an additional matter however the best laptop computers are always pricey. The established manufacturers have already started their own gaming laptop line, so all we can do now is stand back and watch.

http://www.rizeon.com/gaming_laptops/page.php offer a couple of pretty good value laptop computers so scope out their site.

So often small business owners will attempt to tell the public and reader of a publication, yellow pages or Internet portal site, how great their company is, when they should be telling the company what they can do for them.

For many years I had run a franchise company and we had specifications of what advertising we would and would not allow to insure that our brand name was not jeopardized and to insure the advertising pulled for the franchisees. In fact often we paid half the cost of the ads or reduced royalty fees to help pay for them.

One thing I learned in franchising is that our franchisees, much like most of our competitors were small businesses and extremely proud of their businesses. This would come to life and become quite evident by the types of advertising I would see and by the types of advertising my franchises would submit to me via Facsimile for a 24-hour approval turn around.

I cannot tell you how many times our franchisees would attempt to embellish their ads and say things like 5-trucks to serve you, when I knew they only had three and one being built. Meaning even stretching it the true number was four not five and probably not 5 until the start of the next peak season.

You see I realized that it was human nature to embellish, but there is a point to this story and that is that it does not matter anyway? The customer could care less how many units on the road you have they care more about how good of service you will provide and would be quite happy if our competition or our own franchise was a single unit owner/operator and they could deal straight with the boss and not an employee sent out on one of their many units you see?

Please if you own a small business it is better to say “We Love Our Customers” or “We Guarantee Super Service” rather than bragging in your advertising that you have some huge company. Because if you are that big, often the customer thinks you do not need or want their business and you have wasted your advertising on the wrong message. Please consider this in 2006.
